Walnuts are terrific for so many reasons. The walnut is a powerhouse nutritionally, and it’s a convenient and versatile ingredient. From making walnut butter to tossing them in salads, oatmeal, and soups to coating lean proteins, creating a meat substitute, thickening sauces, and so much more, walnuts are a must-have staple ingredient.

If your recipe calls for toasted walnuts, the process is simple. Place them in a single layer on parchment paper lined baking sheets, and bake for 10 minutes at 300°.

    1. Toast the walnuts.
    2. Add toasted walnuts to a food processor and process to the consistency of paste.

    • 2 cups frozen banana slices
    • ½ cup almond milk
    • 2 TBSP walnut butter
    • 2 TBSP cocoa powder
    • 2 TBSP maple syrup
    • 1 TBSP hemp seeds

    Instructions:

    1. Combine all ingredients with a blender to a smooth texture.
    2. Separate into two bowls and top with preferred toppings.

    Ingredients:

    Caramelized Walnut Butter:

    • 1 pound walnuts
    • 3 tsp honey
    • ½ tsp salt
    • 4 tsp olive oil

    Banana Toast:

    • 2 slices whole-wheat bread (toasted)
    • 3 TBSP caramelized walnut butter
    • 1 banana
    • ½ tsp cinnamon

    Instructions:

    Caramelized Walnut Butter:

    1. Drizzle 3 tsp honey on the walnuts.
    2. Sprinkle a ½ tsp of salt on the walnuts.
    3. Toast the walnuts for 15 minutes in a 350° pre-heated oven.
    4. Once cool, grind the walnuts in a processor to a paste texture.
    5. Add oil slowly to bring the mix together into a butter.

    Banana Toast:

    1. Toast the bread.
    2. Spread the caramelized walnut butter on the toast.
    3. Mash the banana and spread it over the caramelized walnut butter.
    4. Sprinkle cinnamon over the toast.
