Note
Suggestions for the Use of Walnuts:
Storing walnuts appropriately is essential to using them in the kitchen. Cold and airtight are the two keys to remember. If you’ll use your stash of walnuts within the next month, store them in the fridge, but if you’ll need to store them longer, the freezer should be their home.
When you buy Glenda’s Farmhouse walnuts in sealed packaging, they will be fine stored in that packaging until you open them. Store any leftover walnuts in an airtight container.
Placement within the refrigerator is also important because walnuts will absorb the flavors of nearby foods, so any strongly odiferous foods should be far removed from the walnut container.
The timing of walnut preparation is also important to freshness. Avoid shelling, chopping, or grinding your walnuts before the time comes to use them for maximum flavor.
In the case of walnuts going bad, you’ll need to be able to identify the situation. Walnuts that smell sour should be thrown away; they’ve turned.
Armed with this recipe for maple candied walnuts, serve your family and guests a nourishing and delicious appetizer or snack, guilt-free. Glenda’s Farmhouse can conveniently and affordably supply all of your walnut needs as well as many other healthy ingredients.
